Nothing crazy. But what’s so special about January 11, 1984? Beats me, I wasn’t alive then. But we have the Internet (and copious amounts of free time while I’m stuck on a graveyard rotation)!

  • Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang was on an official visit to the U.S., visiting Honolulu (Hawaii), Williamsburg (Virginia), San Francisco, and New York City.
  • Nepal celebrated Unity Day.
  • Journeyman tight end Kevin Boss was born. He would go on to play for New York in Super Bowl XLII (the one with David Tyree’s one-handed catch).
  • Denver and San Antonio played the NBA’s highest scoring game (Denver won 163-155).
  • Fritz Geissler died.
  • STS 41-B was moved onto the launch pad.
  • Washington and the Vatican established full diplomatic relations for the first time in 117 years
  • It marked the 20th anniversary of “Smoking and Health: Report of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General of the United States”.
  • Matt Mullenweg was born. That has to be a coincidence. Right?
